I've threatened to finish the cosmetics every year during those eight years but, have never done it due to life intervening. I'm simply paying for the privilege of owning this motorcycle at this juncture (paying to park it, for the past 8 years). In fact, since the engine rebuild, I've put LESS THAN 250 miles on the bike. Owning multiple motorcycles has become an albatross for me. Motorworks in Pilsen has seen this bike a number of times and Steve thinks another $3-$4K will sort out the cosmetics.

I've got a HUGE box full of take-off parts, that if you buy this motorcycle, you must take. Oh and the speedo / tach / odometer all work, which is pretty unusual for a bike with its provenance. Its got the bench seat with the metal rail and the longitudinal stitching. It rides and handles extremely well on Pirelli Angel tires.that prolly need replacement now, just due to age.Īll the "advanced" work was done by Glen Bishop in Wisconsin (if you don't know, he's one of the few Factory Trained BMW Tech's around) and I have the receipts. The drum brakes were adjusted perfectly so they actually stop the bike. The drive was gone through and anything that looked questionable was dealt with. The engine was completely rebuilt including a lightened flywheel, expanded capacity oil pan, etc, etc. The suspension was renewed, including the stiffer springs and fork oil. Electrical stuff was cleaned up / renewed (no-electronic start). All the rubber bits were replaced (hand grips, pegs, various bushings).

Anything more advanced than replacing the handgrips was left to the professionals.Īll the wiring was replaced with brand new OEM or upgraded. The methodology was to do it in three phases: 1) basics that I could do 2) advanced mechanicals 3) cosmeticsĮverything except the 3rd phase of work within the next 18 months. That lasted about 3 months before I started a restoration project on it. I bought it with zero intention of doing a full restoration, instead, I wanted it to be a reliable runner and I would run it around town instead of my RT or GS-A.so I set about to take care of the things above and ride it. The wiring needed work, the shocks were shot, the carbs needed rebuilding / cleaning up, it needed new tires. I found it in rural TN in 2010 - a literal barn find.
